REBOOT AND MOVE
YOUR MODEM AND DEVICES

  • Many WiFi-related issues can be traced back to your modem. Restarting your modem every few weeks will help it perform at its best. When restarting, unplug and re-plug it according to its instruction manual.
  • Your modem is the gateway to the internet, so it should be centrally located in your home. If possible:
    • Place your modem on an elevated surface at least 1.5 meters off the ground and away from large furniture and appliances.
    • Avoid placing your modem near sources of cold air and heat.
    • Turn off and unplug electronic devices and metal appliances close to your modem when they are not in use
    • Sit close to your modem and open doors throughout the house to avoid interference as thick walls and ceilings limit modem performance.

REFRESH YOUR SOFTWARE AND DEVICES
SO THEY ARE UP TO DATE

  • Your modem, internet devices, and software often require updates. If you have 3rd party apps or software installed on your devices:
    • Regularly check for updates by visiting the “settings” or “system preferences” on your device.
    • Let your devices and software do the work for you by setting up automatic updates

MANAGE YOUR DEVICES
AND ENHANCE YOUR NETWORK

  • Turn off internet-enabled devices and applications when they are not in use to help others work at higher speeds.
  • Look into getting WiFi extenders for your home to increase your modem’s reach
  • Connect your devices directly to your modem or WiFi extender with an ethernet cable for a boost if you notice connection issues when gaming or video streaming.
